Dry Lips: What Causes Them and How to Treat Them
Last updated on November 9th, 2020 at 04:24 pm The causes of dry lips are abundant: dry weather, air conditioners, smoking, products that dry out skin (especially acne products or over-used anti-aging products), aging (the more we age, the more easily our skin becomes dehydrated), etc. No matter the reason for dry lips, the challenge is that they have a very thin layer of skin covering them and their barrier function (the thing that keeps skin healthy and hydrated) is easily compromised so they lose moisture very easily. When looking for products that can help bring life back to dehydrated lips, choose products that contain ingredients like: hyaluronic acid (ultra-hydrating because it can hold 1000x it’s weight in water), ceramides, emollients, and peptides. These ingredients will not only help to moisturize lips, they will also help create a barrier on them to prevent hydrating ingredients from easily escaping. To increase lip fullness, reach for products that contain: niacin, emollients, and essential fatty acids. Do you exfoliate your lips? Exfoliating before moisturizing can make a big difference. I recently tried a beautiful sugar lip exfoliant by a local Ventura business, Reves de Sabine, called Petal Face & Lip Polish. This polish is beautiful, it contains organic ingredients and smells like roses. Ingredients are: Organic Raw Cane Sugar, Organic Virgin Coconut Oil, Organic Fractionated Coconut Oil, Raw Honey, Natural Non-GMO Vitamin E, Damask Rose EO, Geranium EO. This is a highly moisturizing polish that tastes sweet. After I exfoliate my lips with Petal Face & Lip Polish, I finish with Ormedic Sheer Pink Lip Enhancement complex by Image Skincare. This ultra-hydrating, powerful polypeptide lip enhancement complex adds up to 40% of moisture volume with repeat usage. It diminishes the appearance of fine lines and soothes dehydrated lips. I absolutely love that it has a slight pink tint to it because it gives my lips a subtle, natural pink hue. Taking care of your skin is important year-round (it is, after all, the largest organ of your body), but try not to forget to be kind to your lips, too! If you’d like more information on Reves de Sabine, please visit the website here: https://www.revesdesabine.com The Ormedic Sheer Pink Link Enhancement complex by Image Skincare is available to purchase at Skincare By Adriana for $22 or on our online store, and is available without a pink tint as well. It’s one of our most popular retail items so get yours while we still have some in stock! -Adriana
